Null_Sets: Encoding Text as Abstract Images

null_sets [evanmeaney.com], developed by artist Evan Meaney in collaboration with the Remote Data Analysis and Visualization Center (RDAV) , consists of a collection of abstract data-based images that explore the gap between "data" and "information".

An open source, custom-made script encodes any text file as an images, in order to visualize both the size and architecture of large-scale datasets through a so-called "aesthetic lens". In theory, this algorithm thus allows for all data to be visually compared and interpreted.

Moreover, this project is described as only the groundwork for a larger project that will likely use some supercomputer in the near future...
